Beetlejuice

Hey, Junior here! So last week I hit a huge speed bump coming back from WonderCon. I get home, I move my office to another room, and my computer konks out in the process. Went all week without the use of my work station. Royally sucked! I finally got it back over the weekend, but by then my workload had doubled, so it's taken me some time to catch back up with stuff. That's why I'm posting last Monday's piece today. I'll also be posting an Edward Scissorhands and Drop Dead Evil piece here very soon.

One thing ya'll oughta know is that my buddy and partner on this sketch blog, Dustin, has decided to step away to focus on other projects. It's all due to not having enough time, which I completely understand. I wish him lots of luck with his stuff, and hope you guys continue to watch and support him as he grows his career. That being said, this blog will continue on. As soon as I catch up on the current pieces, I will get back to posting new stuff Mondays and Fridays. I might even try and wrangle some new partners to come in and join in the fun. And Dustin has even said he'd be willing to drop in and do something here and there if his schedule permits!

So yeah, that's what's going on right now. Should see ya'll tomorrow with some Edward Scissorhands lovin'!

Edward Scissorhands

Hey gang, a quick update concerning my partner is sketch blogging. Junior Bruce is having some computer woes, but he'll be back ASAP. Until then...you're stuck with me! Muah, hahah!

Continuing with Tim Burton, we had to do Edward Scissorhands. It's such an amazing film. One of the things I enjoy most about Burton's work is this sort of surreal reality he creates. The town itself is a character in the movie. Of course, Edward is the main player in the film. Tragically flawed and basically cursed to never really be close to another person due to his stigma. That's where I went with my sketch. I pictured a bird landing on Ed's window sill. He becomes curious and tries to hold the bird, but accidentally lops his head off =/ Kind of a funny image in a dark way, but still, I feel it speaks to the message of the film.

The original full color sketch is for sale. It's drawn on high quality 9x12 bristol board. Just email me: dustinevans22@yahoo.com , with Edward Scissorhands as the title and I will send you the paypal information. The price is $55 (includes shipping within US. Outside of US please inquire).

BEETLEJUICE!!!

BEETLEJUICE!BEETLEJUICE!BEETLEJUICE! That's all I had to say for this sketch to come to life. This week's them is Tim Burton! Burton has been a major influence in my imagination and artwork since I was a wee lad. Beetlejuice is the first movie I remember seeing from Tim. Every since then I've enjoyed everything he's put out and his unique vision...except Planet of the Apes, but we won't talk about that, lol.

I really like Michael Keaton's take on the character, but I also grew up watching the Beetljuice cartoon. My version is some kind of a hybrid between those two. I used brush pen and marker on this sketch. I hope you enjoy what I came up with and thanks for looking!
